Admission procedure

Students are selected in accordance with the current legislation, the Regulations for Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies of the University of Athens and the provisions of the Regulations of the Programme.

During the spring semester, it is decided by the Assembly of the School of Dentistry which specialisations will be offered in the next academic year and a notice for the admission of postgraduate students to the Programme is published and posted on the School's website. The relevant applications together with the necessary supporting documents are submitted to the School's Secretariat within a deadline set by the announcement and may be extended by decision of the School's Assembly.

The notice shall state the maximum number of admissions per specialisation, as well as the year and semester of admission of new students.

The Assembly appoints a selection committee for admissions, separate for each specialisation, consisting of at least three members of the faculty who have undertaken teaching responsibilities in the Programme.

Necessary application documents are:

- Application form.

- Curriculum Vitae.

- Copy of the Personal Identity card.

- Copy of the degree in Dentistry or a certificate of completion of studies. In case the grade is expressed by a mark or a whole number, a certificate from the relevant school confirming the exact numerical grade, with two decimal places, must also be submitted.

- Detailed grades for undergraduate courses.

- A certificate of proficiency in English at C2 level, as defined by the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP).

- Certificate of proficiency in Greek at level B2, for foreign candidates.

- Recognition of the academic equivalence of a foreign qualification by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Centre (DOATAP).

- Two (2) letters of recommendation.

For qualifications obtained from foreign institutions, when the candidates do not provide a certificate of recognition of academic equivalence from the DOATAP, the following procedure is followed:

The Assembly of the School shall appoint a committee responsible for determining whether the foreign institution is recognised. In order for a qualification to be recognised:

(a) the institution awarding the titles must be included in the list of foreign institutions maintained and updated by the DOATAP,

(b) additionally, a certificate of place of study, issued and sent by the foreign university to our Department at secr@dent.uoa.gr, is required. The certificate is written on the basis of the template available at www.doatap.gr/anagnorish/ypodeigmata-vevaioseon-topou-spoudon/. If the place of study or part of it is confirmed to be in Greek territory, the degree is not recognized, unless the part of the studies that took place in the Greek territory is at a public university.

Certificates coming from abroad must be endorsed for the authenticity of the signatures according to the Hague Convention (APOSTILLE stamp). For those countries that have not ratified the Hague Convention and only for these countries, the endorsement is made by the local Greek Consular Authorities. In addition, they must be translated and certified by the translation department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or by a certified lawyer.

Additional supporting documents that may be submitted:

- Scientific publications and presentations at scientific conferences.

- Evidence of research activity.

- Evidence of professional experience, after attaining a professional licence.

The evaluation and selection of candidates for admission to the specialty of Paediatric Dentistry is based on the following criteria:

a. Degree grade (weighting factor 0.7)

b. Grade point average in undergraduate courses of the same subject as the MSc (weighting factor 0.5)

c. Possession of a postgraduate or doctoral degree in the same or a related subject (weighting factor 0.3)

d. clinical experience (weighting factor 0.2)

e. Research activity (weighting factor 0.6)

f. Publications (weighting factor 1.2)

g. Oral interview/examination (weighting factor 3.0)

h. Performance in the entrance examinations of the specialisation (weighting factor 3.5)

The selection of admissions is made separately for each specialisation of the Programme, with separate selection committees.

Selection is carried out in stages, as follows:

In the first stage, applications that do not include all the necessary supporting documents, or are late, are rejected.

In the second stage, an evaluation list is drawn up on the basis of the criteria for the specialisation in paediatric dentistry. Each criterion is scored on a scale of 0-10 to one decimal place and the grade is multiplied by the weighting factor, and the products are added together to give the total grade. The minimum possible total score for the criteria should be at least 60 points. The final evaluation table will be restricted to these candidates and will include the evaluation ranking on the basis of all criteria.

The Admissions Selection Committee draws up the evaluation list of students and submits it to the Assembly for approval.

In the event of a tie (rounded mathematically to the nearest whole number of 100), the tied candidates are admitted by lot to a maximum of 10% of the maximum number of applicants.

If an assessment order is available from the scholarship provider, then this will be applied, otherwise the order will be determined by a draw of lots conducted by the admission selection committee.

The successful candidates will have to register with the Programme Secretariat within thirty (30) days of the decision of the Assembly.

In case of non-registration of one or more students, the runners-up (if any) will be invited to enrol in the Programme, based on their order in the approved evaluation list.

Any objections from candidates should be submitted within fifteen (15) days of the Assembly’s decision of approval of admissions to the Programme.
