Programmes leading to a Diploma, equivalent to a Master's degree:


Community Dentistry, Prevention and Oral Health

Purpose

The aim of the Postgraduate Programme "Community Dentistry, Prevention and Oral Health" is to provide high quality postgraduate education in the scientific fields of Preventive and Community Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. The Programme leads to the award of the Diploma of Postgraduate Studies "Community Dentistry, Prevention and Oral Health", after the full and successful completion of the studies according to the curriculum, in the following specialisations:

The duration of the programme is four (4) academic semesters for the specialisation of Preventive and Community Dentistry and six (6) academic semesters for the specialisations of Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, including the time for the preparation of the thesis.

The degrees are awarded by the School of Dentistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

Graduates of the program will be able to provide high quality health care services to patients with complex problems that cannot be treated by dental care providers within the framework of the undergraduate dental education. Graduates of the “Orthodontics” specialisation may participate in the Orthodontics specialty examinations of the Ministry of Health.

Categories and number of applicants

Graduates of Dentistry from Higher Education Institutions in Greece or Faculties of recognized similar institutions abroad are admitted to the Programme.
The maximum number of students admitted to the Postgraduate Programme is two (2) for the specialisation "Preventive and Community Dentistry", five (5) for the specialisation "Paediatric Dentistry" and four (4) for the specialisation "Orthodontics".
The maximum number of admissions is determined according to the number of faculty members of the specialisation and the student-faculty ratio, the infrastructure, the classrooms, the infrastructure of the clinics where the students' clinical practice is carried out, and the acceptance of graduates into the labour market.
Scholarship holders of the State Scholarships Foundation and foreign scholarship holders of the Greek state, for the matching subject as one of the Programme, are admitted without examinations.

Tuition fees

For their participation in the Programme “Community Dentistry, Prevention and Oral Health”, postgraduate students pay tuition fees amounting to three thousand Euros (3.000 €) per semester for the specialisations “Paediatric Dentistry” and “Orthodontics”, and one thousand five hundred Euros (1.500 €) per semester for the specialisation “Preventive and Community Dentistry”. The fee shall be paid at the beginning of each semester.
According to par. 5 of article 61 of Law 5094/2024: “... It is possible to differentiate the amount of the tuition fees between foreign students from other member states of the European Union and foreign students from third countries who are studying in a Master's degree programme of the universities, which are implemented in Greek or in another language”.
 


Pathology and Therapeutics of Dental and Periodontal Tissues

Purpose

The Master of Science (MSc) program in "Pathology and Therapeutics of Dental and Periodontal Tissues" aims, through its specializations, to provide high quality postgraduate education in the scientific fields Endodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology. Upon full and successful completion of the program curriculum, the MSc degree in "Pathology and Therapeutics of Dental and Periodontal Tissues" is conferred, with the following specializations:

The study time is six (6) academic semesters for each of the three specializations, including the period required for Master Thesis preparation. The degree is awarded by the School of Dentistry, Department of Health Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.


Categories and number of applicants

The MSc program in "Pathology and Therapeutics of Dental and Periodontal Tissues" accepts graduates holding a bachelor degree from the Schools of Dentistry of Higher Education Institutions in Greece or equivalent institutions abroad, recognized by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (DOATAP).

The maximum number of students admitted to the postgraduate program is determined for each specialization as follows:
(a) Endodontics: Five (5) students every two (2) academic years.
(b) Restorative Dentistry: Four (4) students every two consecutive academic years, with no admissions (0) in the third academic year.
(c) Periodontology: Four (4) students every two (2) academic years.

The number of admitted students is determined based on the faculty-to-student ratio, the number of faculty members involved in the MSc program, the available educational and clinical infrastructure, the capacity of teaching facilities, and the resources of the clinical training sites, as well as the employment prospects of graduates in the labor market.

In addition to the regular admissions quota, one (1) applicant per year from the categories of Special Teaching Staff, Laboratory Teaching Staff, and Special Technical Laboratory Staff may be admitted, provided that their work within the institution is relevant to the subject of the MSc program. Candidates in this category who meet the eligibility criteria will be ranked first in the order of merit.

Moreover, scholarship recipients of the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) and international scholarship holders of the Greek state, whose area of scholarship aligns with the MSc program, are admitted without entrance examinations.

Tuition fees

Postgraduate students enrolled in the MSc program "Pathology and Therapeutics of Dental and Periodontal Tissues” are required to pay tuition fees of three thousand euros (€3,000) per semester, applicable to all specializations. Payment must be made at the beginning of each semester.

In accordance with Article 61, Paragraph 5 of Law 5094/2024, it is stipulated that:

“… It is possible to differentiate the amount of tuition fees between foreign students from other member states of the European Union and foreign students from third countries who are enrolled in Master's programs offered by universities, whether these programs are conducted in Greek or in any other language.”


Oral Pathology, Surgery and Radiology

Dentoalveolar Surgery

Three-year full-time programme (180 ECTS). Knowledge of Greek language required.

Oral Medicine & Pathology and Hospital Dentistry

Three-year full-time programme (180 ECTS). Knowledge of Greek language required.

Oral Diagnosis & Radiology

Three-year full-time programme (180 ECTS). Knowledge of Greek language required.


Prosthodontics - Orofacial Pain

Purpose

The purpose of the Postgraduate Program in “Prosthodontics-Orofacial Pain”, per specialization, is:

a) to provide high-level postgraduate education through theoretical training and clinical experience for the prosthetic restoration of natural teeth, as well as for the restoration of partial and total edentulism with the documented use of appropriate means and techniques, prostheses and materials, having as ultimate goal, the functional and aesthetic harmonization with the physiological structures of the oral/maxillofacial system. In addition, the provision of necessary theoretical knowledge and clinical experience for the maxillofacial prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with craniofacial deficits (specialization Prosthodontics and Implant Prosthodontics),

b) provision of high-level postgraduate education by providing the necessary knowledge for the development of the skills required to address problems of non-dental orofacial pain, disorders in the orofacial area, gnathological dysfunctions and occlusal problems (specialization Orofacial Pain Management and Gnathology).

The Postgraduate Program, after the full and successful completion of studies based on their curriculum leads to a Postgraduate Diploma in “Prosthodontics-Orofacial Pain” in the specializations of:

The duration of study at the Postgraduate Program is set at six (6) academic semesters for both specializations, which also includes  time for preparing a Master’s thesis.

The degrees are awarded by the School of Dentistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.


Categories and number of admitted students

The Postgraduate Program "Prosthodontics-Orofacial Pain" accepts graduates from the Schools of Dentistry of  Greek Universities or equivalent foreign institutions recognized by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (D.O.A.T.A.P).

The maximum number of admitted students to the Postgraduate Program is determined per specialization as follows: a) in Prosthodontics and Implant Prosthodontics, seven (7) students per two (2) academic years, b) in Orofacial Pain Management and Gnathology, three (3) students per (2) academic years with the possibility of changing the number of students per specialization by decision of the School’s Assembly following a recommendation from the Coordinating Committee.

The maximum number of admitted students is determined according to the number of educators of the Postgraduate Program, the student-teacher ratio, the logistical infrastructure, the classrooms, the infrastructure of the clinics where the students' clinical practice takes place, and the absorption of graduates from the labor market.

In addition to the number of admitted students, one (1) member of the categories Ε.Ε.Π., Ε.ΔΙ.Π. and Ε.Τ.Ε.Π.  is admitted per year, provided that the work he/she performs at the Institution is the same or related to the subject of the Postgraduate Program. The candidates are excluded from the evaluation and are ranked first in order.

National Scholarship Foundation (IKY) scholars, foreign scholars of the Greek state, for the same subject with that of the Postgraduate Program, are admitted without exams.

Tuition Fees

For their participation in the Postgraduate Program "Prosthodontics-Orofacial Pain", the postgraduate students will pay tuition fees amounting to three thousand five hundred euros (3,500 €) per semester for the specialization "Prosthodontics and Implant Prosthodontics", and one thousand five hundred euros (1,500 €) per semester for the specialization "Orofacial Pain Management and Gnathology". Tuition fees are paid at the beginning of each semester.

According to paragraph 5 of article 61 of Law 5094/2024, it is provided that "... It is possible to differentiate the amount of tuition fees between foreign students, who come from other Member Countries of the European Union, and foreign students, who come from third countries, who study in a Postgraduate Program of HEI’s, which are implemented in Greek or another language".
