Implants II (9th semester)

Aim

To familiarize the student with the established principles of osseointegration, the underlying surgical principles, the physiology of the tissues surrounding the osseointegrated implants, as well as the basic principles of the implant-based prosthetic restoration. Special attention is given to the indications and contra-indications of implant placement, the treatment planning for their position in the jaws as well as the principles of their maintenance.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the 9th semester, the studentshould:

  • Know thebasic principles of osseointegration and the biologic behavior of implants.
  • Know the indications and contra-indications of osseointegrated implant application.
  • Select the cases that can be treated with implants and to choose the adequate treatment plan.
  • Evaluate the medical status of the patients.
  • Be able to perform radiographic evaluation of cases planned to be restored with osseointegrated implants.
  • Know the theoretical aspects of the surgical technique of implant placement and the special surgical procedures.
  • Know the restoration of complete or partial edentulousness with implants.
  • Know the restoration of bone with implants.
  • Knowperiimplantitis.
  • Knowthemaintenanceand the long term outcome of implants.
