AIM

By graduation, all students will have the skills, attitudes and competencies to provide dental treatment and preventive dental care for the medically compromised patients (outpatients or inpatients) 

CONTENT OF THE COURSE

Introduction to Hospital Dentistry. The medically compromised patient due to the disease itself or its treatment. Immunodeficiencies / HIV infection /AIDS.  HIV related Oral lesions /AIDS. Dental management of patients a) with mental or physical disability, b) psychological disorders. Patients with renal diseases: modification of dental treatment planning. Fungal infections in medically compromised hospitalized patients or outpatients. Hepatic failure, cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, diabetes mellitus: dental considerations. Oral complications related to classical and targeted Chemotherapies. Radiation Therapy to the Head and Neck: Salivary glands/oral and maxillofacial system / GI tube. Oral complications of cancer treatments. Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in cancer patients related to antiresorptives and/or anti-angiogenic agents.
