Orthodontics Ι (7th semester)

Aim

To enable the student to evaluate clinical and laboratory diagnostic records related to dental malocclusion and skeletal discrepancies.

Learning outcomes

The student, at the end of the 7th semester, should be able to:

  1. Perform clinical and laboratory assessment of the patient and arrive at an evidence-based, documented diagnosis of the morphological and skeletal relationships and proportions.
  2. Identify the teeth, the dentition stage and any occlusion discrepancies from dental casts and images.
  3. Perform dental cast analyses and extract relevant diagnostic conclusions (space analysis, mixed dentition analysis, Bolton analysis).
  4. Identify and describe the anatomical structures, as seen in radiographic images commonly used in Orthodontics (panoramic, cephalometric).
  5. Perform a cephalometric analysis and arrive at diagnostic conclusions.
  6. Obtain orthodontic impressions for the construction of study casts or for the construction of simple orthodontic appliances.
  7. Evaluate the need for orthodontic treatment based on clinical indices.
