Oral Surgery II (7th Semester)

Aim

The student should learn the basic minor oral surgical procedures.

Learning outcomes

The student by the end of the 8thsemester should know:

  • To perform simple extractions of teeth
  • To perform multiple extractions of teeth and alveoloplasty.
  • To perform surgical extractions of teeth and roots
  • To access the degree of difficulty of a simple or surgical extraction.
  • To know the technique of thesurgical removal of the impacted wisdom teeth , canines and other impacted teeth
  • To know the technique of the apicoectomy.
  • To know the oral surgical procedures which are related to the orthodontics
  • To know the technique of the surgical removal of small, benign tumors of the oral mucosa.
  • To recognize the complications of the oral surgical procedures
  • To know the principles and the methods of alveolar ridge preservation
  • To know elements of surgical implantology
  • To recognize and manage emergency situations in the dental office.
  • To know and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (Basic-BLS)

Content

Multiple extractions-alveoloplasty; Basic preprosthetic surgery; Surgical removal of impacted teeth-in general; Apicoectomy; Surgery of the benign tumors of the oral mucosa; Biopsy technique; Implants; Technique of harvesting autografts

Educational Methods

  • Seminars.
  • Clinical training.

Criteria for successful completion

  • Attendance of seminars.
  • Successful completion of the clinical requirements.
  • Successful final examination.
