Aim

 To familiarize the students with cell structure and function at a molecular level.

Learning outcomes

  • To present the metabolic pathways of major chemical micro- and macromolecules at a cellular level.
  • To highlight their importance and central role during disease onset
  • To describe the regulatory mechanisms involved in normal and pathological cellular function.

Content

Glycolysis. Glyconeogenesis. Pentose Phosphate Pathway. Glycogen synthesis and degradation pathways. Citric acid cycle. Oxidative Phosphorylation. Biochemistry of lipids. Biosynthesis and degradation of fatty acids. Amino acid oxidation and production of urea. Amino acid biosynthesis. Nucleotide biosynthesis and catabolism
