General description

The Clinic of Hospital Dentistry belongs to the Section of Oral Pathology and Oral Surgery, together with the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Department of Oral Pathology.

The main objectives of the Clinic of Hospital Dentistry are:

  • To develop educational activities in the scientific field of Hospital Dentistry at undergraduate, postgraduate level and at continuing education. 
  • To accommodate various social needs related to the field of hospital dentistry, when it is requested. 
  • To collaborate with domestic and international research centers and Universities.
  • To organize continuing education seminars

Specifically the Clinic of Hospital Dentistry is responsible:

  • To provide dental treatment and preventive dental care for the medically compromised patients (outpatients or inpatients) regarding cases such as: radiation therapy, pre-transplant evaluation, chronic disease or disability, AIDS, etc.
  • To provide required dental treatment under general anesthesia in patients of all ages.
  • To manage the dental emergencies cases of the hospitalized patients.
  • To manage the Dental trauma and periodontal injury. 
  • To evaluate and manage cases of Maxillofacial emergencies initially and to refer them to the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery subsequently. 

 Faculty staff

The faculty members are engaged in teaching in the undergraduate and postgraduate courses of Hospital Dentistry, as well as in courses of other undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the Dental and a Medical School.
In addition, Continuing Education seminars are organized one per calendar year, for general practitioners and hospital dentists.

  • Hospital Dentistry: Lectures (8th  semester)
  • Hospital Dentistry: Clinical training (9th & 10th semester, Monday to Thursday 9.00 – 13.00).


The Clinic of Hospital Dentistry organizes and carries out research protocols in collaboration with other Greek or foreign Hospitals, and Universities.
The faculty is focused in the research fields of cytolology, immunocytology, clinical studies, quality of life studies and other studies regarding to the etiology and pathogenesis of the lesions of oral cavity, salivary glands and jaws in medically compromised patients. Oral Complications in anti-cancer therapies are our special focus of research and clinical practice.


The faculty offices of the Clinic are located in the ground floor of the Old Building of the Dental School.
The preclinical/theoretical training of the undergraduate students is carried out in the amphitheater 'Eythimios Papantoniou' in the ground floor of the Old Building of the Dental School.
Clinical practice is hosted in the Clinic of Hospital Dentistry which is equipped with 2 dental units and is located in the ground floor of the Old Building of the Dental School. The faculty members may also examine and treat inpatients (hospitalized), when we are asked.
