General Description
The main objective of the Department of Endodontics is to educate the undergraduate dental students in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the pulpal and periapical diseases, the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain of pulpal aetiology, as well as the treatment of traumatized teeth.
In addition, the Department is responsible for the 3-year postgraduate program of clinical specialization in Endodontics, which leads to Masterʼs degree in Endodontics.

The faculty members are assisted in their educational activities by postgraduate students, PhD candidates and part-time clinical instructors.
Additionally, the faculty members are involved in the Continuing Education of dentists by participating in various scientific activities of the Dental School and of dental associations and scientific societies.
Educational activities
In undergraduate studies, the Department is responsible for teaching the following courses to the dental students.
- Endodontics I (5th and 6th semester) taught by lectures and laboratory practice.
- Endodontics II (7th to 10th semester) taught by seminars and clinical training.
- Pathology of Dental Hard Tissues (3rd semester).
In postgraduate studies, the Department is responsible for the theoretical, preclinical and clinical training of the postgraduate students in Endodontics.
Research
The Department is focused in the research fields of pulp pathophysiology, microbiology of endodontic infections, microleakage studies and the clinical efficacy of techniques and materials used in the endodontic treatment. The in vitro studies are carried out in the research laboratories of the Dental School ( biomaterials, histology, microbiology etc.), as well as in collaboration with research laboratories of other University Schools and Research Centers.
The clinical studies take place in the under- and post-graduate clinics of the Dental School.
Facilities
The secretaryʼs and the facultyʼs offices are located in the 4th floor of the Old Building of the Dental School. The preclinical practice of the undergraduate students in Endodontics is hosted in the 2nd Dental Laboratory at the basement of the Old Building, which is equipped with audiovisual aids and 45 fully equipped dental units. The clinical training of the undergraduate students is incorporated into the Total Patient Care Clinic located in the main clinics of the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Old Building, which are equipped with 80 dental units. For the education of the postgraduate students the clinic of the 2nd floor of the New Wing of the Dental School is used as well as seminar rooms of that Building.
